Paragliding Pedras Blancas

Located in the Castejón de Sos region of Spain, this paragliding site offers a launch altitude of 2,090-2,100 meters with a height difference of 1,100 meters. It is regularly used and provides various launch and takeoff options in different directions, making it suitable for thermal soaring and cross-country flights. The site is particularly popular in the mornings when the first hillside breezes begin to rise. The takeoff area is grassy and comfortable, but caution is advised as the grass ends abruptly, leading to rocky terrain. Strong easterly winds can create dynamic lift and turbulence due to the mountain opposite the launch site. In such conditions, it is advisable not to drift westward. Access to the site from Castejón de Sos involves a 17 km journey, with 4 km on asphalt and 13 km on a track in varying conditions. The landing area is 4.2 km away. The site is usable from May to November, with access outside these months hindered by snow. The grassy takeoff area is not very uniform. Previously the main launch site in the area, it is now less frequently used as the Liri launch site is better and easier. However, when Liri is snow-covered or visibility is poor at higher launches, this site remains the only option with a height difference of over 1,000 meters. Be cautious of strong thermal conditions around midday, as thermals can form right in front of the takeoff. Conditions at the takeoff can be favorable while the landing area may experience strong breezes or different conditions. The access time is approximately 45 minutes by 4x4 or van; it is not recommended to use a regular car.
